Thank you for sharing this link. I, like you, cannot understand why this practice still continues and why people this day and age insist upon mutilating their daughters - culture or not. However, when male circumcision was mentioned, which is common practice almost everywhere, I could not help but feel empathetic towards those who adhere to the former practice because of culture. Quite possibly, the way to battle the scourge of female genital cutting is to address it along with other forms of de-facing the human body on young children, including male circumcision, and tribal face cutting.
