Oooh, look what I stumbled upon. Ed Burns talks about creating The Wire on the National Public Radio show Fresh Air. Anyone who knows anthing about me will know that this is one of my favourite shows. Now that I am in the land of real DSL, I will enjoy listening to this without any breaks.
Monday's show's guests were mother and daughter writers, Anita and Kiran Desai.
So The Wire is now in its fifth and final (sniff, sniff) season. Well, every good thing must come to an end - unless they want to drag a good tale out a bit too long, lose audience interest and be unceremoniously kicked off the air. Even though The Wire has been lauded by critics since its first season, it's never been a ratings puller but we Wire fans love it to death (and maybe even prefer it that way - we were the astute few who were able to catch onto a good thing).

HBO did a documentary on the show before the start of the new season, I think that coupled wth your constant praise of the show made me start watching it. However I have missed a lot since I left Dallas, my friends don't have HBO and they don't show it online, I am really missing!
Hi Ore
I am an ardent user of Google in searching for just about anything in the world and during one of my search I stumbled upon your blog site about a year ago. Your personality from what I could feel from your writing sort of intrigued me and I have been coming to your site from time to time to read what abgout how you were doing since your arrival back in Nigeria. I also love reading novels and I think I am developing an interest in going a bit further like going for Readings etc Can you let me know where excatly these readings take place in Lagos and what I as a reader will gain from them. Thanks
Dupe

Funke, well sorry to hear that you have missed so much of The Wire, but I am even further behind than you, so I am not that sorry....
Dupe, I love going for book readings because you get more of an insight into the book from the writer's point of view. Also, I am a very curious person and like to know what writers are like - especially writers of books that I enjoyed.
Molara Wood normally posts announcements of many of these readings before they occur. I would check her blog. It's something like wordsbody.blogspot.com
I can't believe The Wire's over. I saw the last episode of the last season a couple of days ago. I won't spoil it for you, but It didn't feel like the end. It felt more like a beginning, so I won't be surprised if HBO decides to go for another season, or if there's a movie in the works...
Supermandru, well I guess that's a good thing so they leave the door open to come back though many HBO shows don't tend to return once they've declared the end of the series.
I had heard that the show's creators were in talks with HBO about one more season, but this was several months ago so I guess nothing came off that. Ah well, everything good must come to an end I guess. I will have fun watching the 3rd season and I'm sure I will blog about it as I go through it.
