Mentoring Young Bloggers

I'm so excited to be a part of a new project Young Caucacus Women. The project, which is targeted at young women from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, will train the young women to use blogs as a tool for personal citizen journalism.

Each week, "mentors" will post on a variety of topics to inspire the young women to write. In this way, they will gain confidence in sharing their views, commenting on others' posts and using the blogging technology.

It would be great to have something similar here in Nigeria or on the African continent. I know we have enough people to mentor others who are just starting out on their blogosphere explorations.

I love this idea and would like to be part of it. How would one get one going for Nigerian bloggers? And how did you become part of the one going to kick off on the 30th of January?

Hi Ore. This is a great idea for African and Nigerian bloggers. If you are interested in discussing it further please email me at:

thanks sokari

I saw the call for volunteers on one of the mailing lists I belong to. I would most definitely love to start something like this for African bloggers and will drop Sokari a line.

I'm not sure how to go about this, but I think a good start would be getting a sense of how many people out there would be interested in something like this. I can also talk to Katy, the coordinator of the Young Caucacus Women (the project I will be mentoring for).

I already have some ideas of things that I'd like to do. I'm always partial to mentoring young women, though blogging is still such a fairly new tool in Africa, that really all would benefit.

@ foulla and uknaija: Thanks! I am very excited about doing this. It was just an idea until I posted here. If you have any ideas or want to support the initiative in anyway, I will be very happy to hear from you at the above email address.
