From MA to AL

Finished A Song Flung Up to Heaven in a few hours. It was an easy read, though profound. I'm starting Fruit of the Lemon by Andrea Levy. Hope I like it a lot more than I did Small Island. If I don't like it, I will move on to something else. I no longer believe in trucking through an unenjoyable read.

Meanwhile, I've watched a lot of films since yesterday, courtesy of MNET Movies: Alexander; Princess Diaries 2; One Fine Day; The Recruit; and Pieces of April (on at the moment). I've seen bits of Pieces of April before and it's quite hilarious. Pity, I've got to go to bed NOW because I have work to go to tomorrow.

Yes! Another reader refusing to finish a book she doesn't like!

I haven't read Andrea Levy yet. Small Island sounds like it was in Oprah's Book Club. I never got to see Pieces of April, even though I heard it was so good. Nice of MNet to feature indies.

Hey you, caught you online VERY late last night. Had the internet crawl bug, huh? So did I. Your status was set to 'busy' though, so I let you be.

PS: My status is ALWAYS set to offline. Teehee.

I have resorted to the extreme measure of cancelling my cable television so i have more reading time....spent the best part of the weekend reading in the back garden and it was a dream!!! I must say, we have the best reading weather at the moment...30degrees and counting!! You should start a book lcub girl!

Everchange: MNET shows different types of films. I don't often have time to watch an entire film, but when I do, I can usually find something to watch.

Pilgrimage: No wonder I have never seen you online. Sometimes I just need to check my email before I got to sleep and that can keep me up later than I mean to be.

Talking Beginnings: I have thought about joining a book club, but I wonder if that would kill the joy I find in reading. I've always loved reading, but really did not enjoy literature classes at all. Having to re-read a book a zillion times and analyse every page to death sucked all the pleasure out for me. So, I don't know about a book club.

I understand what you mean about having to cancel your cable to get any reading done. I never did that, but thought about it many times. Now that I live with others, I find that I don't always have first dibs on TV and so hardly get to watch the station or programme of my choice. In addition, there's just no time anymore. How is it that we get so much busier, the older we get?

Yes you are sooo right....upside is you get to live alone and make all your decisions yourself. I will admit that the best thing i have done is cancel that silly cable, you can't imagine the backlog of magazines and books i have to go through....

It'll be interesting to see what you make of Fruit of the Lemon. I didn't like it but quite liked Small Island. It was hard getting through the first thirty or so pages of Small Island though, so may be worth gritting your teeth and slogging on...or maybe we just have different tastes
