I really wanted to use this opportunity to see a lot of films, especially smaller, independent films that Nu Metro Cinemas is unlikely to show. I only saw two: The Queen, starring the divine Helen Mirren, who I was introduced to courtesy of BBC's Prime Suspect (yes, me and my crime shows); and Pedro Almodover's Volver. Funny, I have never been a particular fan of Penelope Cruz, but she was magnetic in this film. Volver explores the relationship between a mother and her daughters.
Hopefully, I can squeeze one more film into this trip.

You never said what you thought of The Queen. I saw it at Nu Metro Montecasino on Sunday last week, the 26th of November. Awesome film.
I really liked The Queen, as I suspected I would. It was so interesting to see a film that presents a 'behind the scenes' peek, if you like, into the life of the queen.
Helen Mirren was absolutely amazing. She's one of my favourite actresses and I think I would see almost anything with her in it.
There's only one word I can use to describe Penelope Cruz in Volver, sensuous. Almodovar treads a fine line between lechery and admiration, but gets it right. Captivating film.
If you're interested in more Spanish fare, try Guillermo de Toro's Pan's Labyrinth. It's an incredibly difficult film to watch, del Toro pulls no visual punches in protraying the brutality of Franco's Spain. Catch it if you can.
